Review of True Grit (2010) by Christian B — 25 Dec 2012
A local 14 year old girl named Mattie Ross (Hailee Steinfeld), is set to seek revenge for the death of her father, who was killed by a man named Tom Chaney. She discovers that the best possible way to bring Chaney to justice, is to hire a Deputy U.S Marshall. She seeks out the services of Rooster Cogburn (Jeff Bridges), and after some doubt of Mattie's seriousness about the deal, agrees to pursue Chaney. Before they begin there journey, a Texas ranger by the name of LeBoeuf (Matt Damon) offers to join forces in pursuing Chaney, as he is seeking to bring him to justice for the murder of a state senator. Mattie declines, but has to fight to get her terms across to Cogburn. As the three of them enter the Indian territory, they are unaware of how they will all end up helping each other in a common goal, and Mattie's revenge.
True Grit is a very good movie. The story line (based on the novel and 60s version of the movie) is very well written. The film was nominated for 10 different academy awards. Jeff Bridges is terrific as he flawlessly plays the role of Rooster Cogburn, an alcoholic U.S Marshall, who is witty, but cold blooded and fearless when he deals with his enemies. Bridges was nominated for an academy award for his performance. Hailee Steinfeld was nominated for best supporting actress in her big picture debut as she plays the role of Mattie. Overall, the acting is great in this movie. I gave this movie four stars. Its a very good movie with great writing, great plot, and great acting. It contains some violent gun fights, alcohol references, and mild language. Definitely worth watching.
