Review of True Grit (2010) by Jared T — 05 Feb 2013
Not having read the book but aware that the Coens were staying very true to it, I was pleasantly surprised with its sense of humor. While that's not unexpected in a Coen film, I expected its tone to be closer to No Country or The Man Who Wasn't There.
Hailee Steinfield was terrific- the lifeblood of the film. Acting, cinematography were both excellent. Two complaints: Carter Burwell's score was uncharacteristically annoying and very distracting.
The other- odd pacing relative to the final act. I didn't find the film to be overlong- in fact, I felt the crescendo scene to be rushed. Overall, though, a terrific film.
