Review of True Grit (2010) by Austin M — 06 Mar 2013
This is a sure case of style over substance.
The best that can be said of "True Grit" is that it's beautifully filmed and cast quite well for an ensemble of such bankable stars as Damon, Bridges and Brolin. My question would be, does anything of interest happen in this movie? You stack the deck with brilliant actors and directors and then produce a narrative which is incredibly bland topped off with a pathetically flat climax. Josh Brolin appears on screen for maybe ten minutes and is then dispatched without ceremony.
This film is a terrific display of acting excellence and visual skill but not good for much else.
