Review of True Grit (2010) by Liam C — 31 Mar 2013
A beautiful, emotionally involving, heart pounding western. It's Coen Brothers, of course it's going to be good. The true star of the show is the acting. Yeah, the story is important, of course it is, but it's a very simple story of revenge that might not be as fulfilling as she might think. If I wasn't told that Cogburn was Jeff Bridges, I never would have guessed, I might have cottoned on to it at the end but he was so dolled up and into his role, I would have never known. Steinfield as Ross was very convincing, she has a strong career ahead of her, cracking a smile close to never in her revenge. Matt Damon was also good as was Brolin. A talented cast with their full potential utilised, it's good to see. The story, while simple and classic, had a good pace to keep things moving along and enough new content to keep it interesting, bear guy anyone?
An incredibly strong remake that should please old fans and new fans alike.
