Review of True Grit (2010) by Ian F — 23 Jun 2013
The biggest question is how does this compare to the original? I like this one better. It may simply be that I saw the original first, but it could also be that it simply is better... with exceptions.
The music is better here and Matt Damon is way better than than Glen Campbell; but then it wouldn't take much, Campbell wasn't an actor. I also prefer the ending here, dark but much more real and less classic Hollywood cheese. That all said, both Bridges and Wayne bring their own to the role and both work as individual roles. Similar can be said to Steinfeld but I think she fails a tad to Darby; but then, that may simply be that the first time I saw the role it was Darby. The shots are still beautiful but more modern or glossy but the story is the same and it just works so well.
