Review of True Grit (2010) by Cale B — 17 Feb 2014
Best film I've seen in months. Unusual and strong dialogue - true to what they would probably say in 1878. So sad, at the end about the poor 14-year old Mattie Ross after all she went through - she was the one with 'True Grit' after all, not Rooster Cogburn.
Very sad about Mattie's horse 'Little Blackie' too, who is her only true stalwart companion throughout, crossing the river, neck deepr; carrying her daily through snow; after the snake bite he carries her and the heavier Cogburn too until exhausted, and finally the poor horse gives his life so that she can live and whose only reward is a few red apples from the guest house!!
A nice touch that Rooster was buried, 25 years later in the Ross burial area, 1903. A shame La Boeuf and Mattie do not get married (legal at 15 in some states).
