Review of True Grit (2010) by Jacob W — 16 May 2015
It was slow, the dialogue was very complicating, and the main character was frustratingly annoying. I wanted very much to love this film and even so, with much of what this film got right, I want to say I liked it, but I cannot.
Jeff Bridges and Matt Damon are excellent and had they been the main focus this film would be a whole hell of a lot better. Bridges character had a frustrating gargling voice that made him hard to understand and while seeing the purpose of his tone, it hurt the film.
Josh Brolin had an interesting character, but was on screen for less than maybe ten minutes so his talent was wasted. Nothing big or exciting happens and the "bad guys" weren't so bad and did not put up a fight.
My final and biggest complaint is Hailee Steinfeld. I disagree that she did a great job. She had horribly annoying dialogue that made me want to shoot her for the men and her performance seemed very forced.
In all this film let me down in a big way and I sadly do not recommend it. (69%).
