Review of True Confessions (1981) by Peter V — 19 Sep 2010
What a surprise! I missed this when it came out, but I just caught it on Hulu. Duvall is masterful in his portrayal of a hardened detective with a self-righteous and hypocritical streak running through his well-worn ego.
Charles Durning meets Duvall's standard of excellence as his exceeding hypocrisy overflows the screen. De Niro plays an understated role to perfection as he is forced to face how money can corrupt even the saintly.
It is mostly depressing with a little bit of redemption, but don't miss it.
