Review of Troy (2004) by Alexander Z — 17 Nov 2013
Troy gets a bad rap. It was unfairly compared to Gladiator and blasted for the inaccuracies to the original Homeric epic, though when you actually stop to compare the two, it sticks far closer to the story than say, Braveheart did to history. As a result, Troy is seen as a poor epic film, which really makes no sense in hindsight. The acting performances are wonderful, the sets are beautiful, and it really is a great story overall. I think the critics were just tired of epics, especially after flops like Alexander and The Alamo.
Yet everyone loved The Last Samurai. I don't get it.
