Review of Trouble with the Curve (2012) by Tim J — 08 Mar 2013
Formulaic from start to finish. I'm being generous giving it that 25 cent word instead of something more harsh. Clint Eastwood's crotchety old guy act has gone beyond being tiresome to being annoying, and was a better fit for the vastly superior Million Dollar Baby or the classic Unforgiven.
I'd like to see him try something deeper and more challenging. As for this one, the heartwarming stuff feels like it's been under a McDonald's heat lamp for days. Sure, if you're a sap like I am at times, you might find the last few minutes to be a nice little finish emotionally.
But this film is so predictable and so cliched that it hurts me to even shed a small tear for its sentiment at the end.
