Review of Trouble with the Curve (2012) by Tyler R — 10 Jun 2013
Clint Eastwood, Amy Adams, and Justin Timberlake. The first is a legend, the second is one of the best actresses out there, and the third is still progressing as an actor, though he isn't bad. Sounds like a pretty good line up, but even the trailers let you know ahead of time that Trouble With the Curve would be the typical sentimental, father/daughter bonding film.
The film follows an aging baseball scout whose daughter comes along with him for fear that his health might get in the way of his job performance. The film packs in the cheese, and it packs it in tight.
The dialogue, the situations, and the story are pure cheese. The acting is alright. That's not a knock against any of the actors, they just try to do the best with what little they have to work with.
Clint Eastwood does his usually growl and wisecrack, with Amy Adams doing most of the work. The film moves at a decent length, but it just isn't all that interesting. Now, that doesn't mean it's bad, just.
...dull. Overall, I got what I expected out this. I just wish it would've been more considering the talent involved.
