Review of Trouble with the Curve (2012) by Justin V — 04 Jan 2013
Clint Eastwood is typical Clint in a film that would serve as a nice companion piece to Moneyball. It's a bit of a contrast to the Bennett Miller film in that Moneyball was centered around the numbers and theories surrounding baseball (specifically, Sabermetrics), whereas Trouble highlights the feel and knowledge for the game.
That, though, is secondary to the father-daughter relationship between Eastwood's Gus Lobel and Amy Adams' Mickey. That perspective worked for the most part, even though it came off as trite and all too familiar.
The budding romance between Mickey and Justin Timberlake's Johnny Flanagan seemed tacked on, although Timberlake's charisma is evident and not unwelcome. Overall, Trouble with the Curve is a decent watch and I'd recommend it for a rental.
