Review of Trouble with the Curve (2012) by Roxanne R — 03 Mar 2013
As always Clint Eastwood delivers a moving and touching drama about life; in this one he plays Gus Lobel, one of the best baseball scouts in the nation. With decades of experience under his belt, time takes a toll on him and now an old man, he is having vision problems.
Gus is given one last assignment to prove his worth to the organization, who sees him as unable to adapt to changes in the business. His boss and friend Pete (John Goodman), who does not want to see him let go, asks Gus's daughter Mickey (Amy Adams) to join him on the trip to make sure he is okay, against Gus's wishes.
He should thank his lucky stars to have a daughter like Amy because not only she is a top notch lawyer but also smart as a whip when it comes to baseball stats and picking players with top potential. Amy is about to jeopardize her own career to save her fathers! From a woman's point of view I liked this film a lot because it shows that women can be very competent in sports and know their facts and figures.
Clint Eastwood once more delivers a great performance and although he did not write or direct this one, it still delivers a home run! Ironic how with age, Clint Eastood improved his films dramatically and steered away from Dirty Harry to produce, write and direct movies that touch the heart and resonate with millions.
My favorite character was Amy Adams, his daughter. An accomplished, intelligent, and reasonable woman that goes above and beyond to help her distant father. Recommended!!
