Review of Trouble with the Curve (2012) by Anthony W — 18 Jan 2014
If you like baseball, you will like this movie. So many things hit home for me here. Traveling through the mountains of NC - looking for talent for the Atlanta Braves. This brings back so many childhood memories.
The premise of this movie revolves around an old-school scout trying to thrive in the era of computers and sabre-metrics. Eastwood's character tries to emphasize his relevance and the importance of the "X" factor while at the same time, trying to repair his relationship with his daughter.
It's a great baseball movie and a great father-daughter movie. As it seems to be lately, Justin Timberlake appears and does very well. He is becoming the the 201X version of the 199X Oliver Platt.
One final note: I actually thought they got some redneck local to play the part of the hotshot prospect from the mountains of North Carolina. When I found out that part was being played by none other than Eastwood's son Patrick, I was completely shocked.
Totally believable! A truly breakout role under the radar.
