Review of Tropic Thunder (2008) by Tom R — 25 Jul 2012
(5 Stars) Tropic Thunder is an extremely funny cult comedy and probably the funniest satire of Hollywood ever made. Its humor is racy and daring but that's how you handle a sendup of Tinseltown and award-winning war movies. The fake trailers are a hysterical way to kick off the movie and a surprisingly effective way to set up each of the characters Tugg Speedman (Ben Stiller), Alpa Chino (Brandon T. Jackson), Jeff Portnoy (Jack Black) and Kirk Lazarus (Robert Downey Jr).
It reminds me a lot of Hot Fuzz, a hilarious movie about movies and over-the-top gory. I think every scene has at least one laugh out loud moment or quotable line. While every character, even the minor ones, has a funny tick, Robert Downey Jr steals the show. Don't miss Tropic Thunder. Like Ben Stiller's Zoolander, it's very quotable and very entertaining.
