Review of TRON: Legacy (2010) by Thomas T — 20 Nov 2012
I didn't have high expectations for this movie - I've been burnt by enough movies in my time that rely upon the razzle dazzle of visual effects rather than good story-telling. Still, the fact it was a sequel to an 80s classic - itself a ground-breaking movie of its genre - delivered enough intrigue to give it a go.
.. So my review, well, what can I say other than "it wasn't bad" - not exactly the praise Disney probably would hope for. That said, I doubt they care too much about my opinion. The visual and sound effects are, as to be expected, pretty cool.
The soundtrack is a perfect compliment - an entrancing, spiritual electronica-fuelled journey (thank you Daft Punk). The story is however farfetched and flimsy, even for a sci-fi. There's far too little detail and lack of explanation of the consequences of the perils of allowing the cyber world to penetrate the real world.
Perhaps it's simply a subliminal warning about the dangers of the internet generation - who knows? My advice is don't bother trying to read too much into this movie. Take it at the surface level, switch off your brain, switch this movie on - all will be fine!
