Review of TRON: Legacy (2010) by Dave M — 11 Feb 2013
I'm literally torn right down the middle with this film. Visually it kicks ass. And yeah, I'm a big Daft Punk fan and have been loving the soundtrack for the past week and a half. But from a storytelling standpoint this movie makes little to no sense. I'm rarely if ever a stickler for plot holes, but good god. At least explain some stuff just a little bit even if it's just in plain text next to the end credits.
My other major gripe is with Jeff Bridges. Yes, the idea of badass Jeff is cool, but the motherfucker doesn't do one goddamn thing. He's just like Boba Fucking Fett. Amazing character that alludes to all sorts of epic badassness, but when it comes time for Mr. Lebowski to bust skulls after shattering into the room from the ceiling, glares up from underneath an epic glowing hood.... and distracts the bad guys long enough so that other people can kill them? One epic glare is all we get? Did we not have time for some fight choreography for El Duderino? Did we run out of budget for a stunt double after spending all our money and a less than average rendered "Young Bridges"?
Whatever. The action and style was fucking tits. But next time Disney, don't try and over produce what should have been one of your biggest franchises. I guess we can always get some explanation in what I hope will be a superior sequel.
