Review of TRON: Legacy (2010) by Michelle H — 08 Jul 2013
Seems like I am one of the few people who liked this movie more than the original! I was completely blown away by this film! The special effects alone where well worth the price of admission and I thought the story was pretty good as well, if not totally original.Kevin Flynns son Sam is laser beamed into Tron to look for his father, who disappeared without a trace for 20 years after the last film. The world of Tron is brought to life with the most dazzling and hauntingly beautiful special effects I have ever seen. The contrast of shadows and clouds and rain woven together with lines of neon light is very different from our natural world, but with incredible depth and realism that immerses you in that world. Jeff Bridges was great as Kevin Flynn, and had a lot more emotional depth this time around. In the world of Tron, he is worshiped as the creator and has a zen like calm combined with a great presence and wit. The girl in this, Quarra, kicks ass as Kevins sidekick. The action scenes are spectacular, especially the light cycle battle and disk throwing contest, hearkening back to ancient roman Olympic.
games. The soundtrack by Daft Punk is amazing. It is a haunting blend of eighties style techno and modern day electronica that gives a perfect sense of atmosphere to the Tron world. The humor does not work so well, coming across as cheesy in most cases, but overall, Tron is spectacular pulse pounding entertainment if you just sit back and enjoy it for what it is!
