Review of Tron (1982) by Scott A — 02 Aug 2011
Style over substance, my tush! People are quick to say that this movie is nothing but flashy effects with no real story, but really, it had so much going on underneath that it took years for the world to grasp it.
Steven Lisberger wrote this film with his extensive knowledge of computers, something that remained a mystery to most of the world at the time. Not an inch of the film was penned without something to back it up and you have to watch it more than once to fully appreciate it.
The experimental effects are amazing, and the story that may not be as deep as other films, still manages to provoke interesting thoughts. It may show here and there that Lisberger was a visual director beforehand, but "Tron" is seriously under appreciated, and that needs to be rectified.
