Review of Tron (1982) by John H — 23 Apr 2011
One of those films that has a reputation built on it's groundbreaking effects work, it's not a great film but watching the film now its still a pretty good one... It also made me revisit the sequel which I now have a greater appreciation of than before.
Whilst the story itself was ahead of its time, its execution is a little hokey. Having Jeff and Bruce around certainly helps to make up for this. Flynn is actually a pretty great character in the mould of those 80's heroes that we saw a lot of all those years ago.
Where the effects work appears dated now, it still looks great and the stuff with the light cycles etc. show a huge amount of imagination which is in short supply these days. A guilty pleasure to be sure but a pleasure all the same.
