Review of Tron (1982) by Jeff B — 28 May 2011
Tron is one of those movies where you turn off your brain for 96 minutes and immerse yourself in a heckuva lot of fun. The whole thing just wallows in the 1980s, and that's not a bad thing. It's a really fun time capsule filled with arcade games, 80s fashions, 80s hair-dos, 80s graphics, just about everything 80s.
The CGI was (at the time) unheard of, ut by today's standards, it's pretty bad. However, I prefer the FX in this over the ones in Tron: Legacy simply because the bad CGI adds a sort of mysterious charm to it.
It's a compare and contrast piece between the arcade games of the 1980s and the HD video games of today. Jeff Bridges is great in the role of Kevin Flynn, and David Warner is once again fantastic in his role as the villain.
Overall, Tron is a very, very entertaining film. So what if the disks are just frisbees? So what if the plot is rather weak? If you can still remeber the words to Pac-Man Fever, or whenever you go to an arcade you head staright for the Galaga machine, you'll love every minute of Tron; I know I did!
