Review of Trolls (2016) by Lyndsey S — 04 Nov 2016
Absolutely disappointed. Visually, it was such a stunning movie. The music is fantastic. The voices fit the characters perfectly. But the message completely lacked when they had every ability to really drive home just how important it is for toddlers and youngin's to fully accept themselves and not feel like altering their appearances is what will bring them joy.
Instead, however, The Trolls decided to make the maid feel her hair wasn't pretty enough, her dress wasn't fancy enough, and she didn't ever know the right things to say to the prince. So on top of making the female character feel inadequate, as if everyday media doesn't do that enough, the prince also said he needs to lose 30 pounds to look good enough for his date.
As if that wasn't absolutely enough to really make you regret taking your young child to this misogynistic Cinderella 2.0, they also make an orgasm joke. It's a waste of time when you could truly teach your children true positivity and joy.
Don't waste your money and don't waste a good conversation to have with your little ones about their appearance and weight.
