Trolls is a beautifully animated, very colorful family film that's light on plot, but peppered with some really great music numbers. The movie tells the tale of how the Trolls were led away from the evil Bergen's who use to eat the Trolls because they believed eating a Troll let one be happy.
The Trolls have lived in peace and solitude for 20 years when the young Princess Poppy (Anna Kendrick) decides to throw a celebration which in turn alerts Chef (Christine Baranski) a Bergen who's been looking for the Trolls for years in order to feed the Bergen King Gristle (Christopher Mintz-Plasse) and bring happiness to the Bergen people.
Bare with me here. Some of the Trolls are kidnapped and it's up to Poppy who brings along a very bitter Troll named Branch (Justin Timberlake) to save the Trolls! The films is as predictable as they come.
it doesn't throw any twists here and I will say at times it almost seems this short film (which only clocks in at about an hour and twenty minutes) could have been about ten minutes shorter! Regardless, Kendrick and Timberlake are fantastic at singing and it shows because their music numbers are easily the best! The music and numerous cameos that pepper this film are kind of what moves it along.
It's a solid rent for a pretty family film that has a decent message for kids!
