Trolls.

Initial Reaction: A movie about game players who annoy other players?

Main Characters.

Poppy, Branch: Two trolls. They are voiced by Anna Kendrick and Justin Timberlake.

Plot Summary.

It's been a long time since the Trolls were enslaved by large creatures called Bergens. Things could not be any better for these Trolls.

But one fateful day during a celebration, the Bergens show up and capture several Trolls. Poppy tries to get help from one other troll Branch, but he turns her down - at first.

But he does change his mind and the two of them enter Bergen territory to get back several other Trolls.

SCORING.

Main Characters.

These two are great as total opposites. Poppy always looks on the bright side of things while Branch is really cynical about life. They really have great chemistry. SCORE: 9.

Supporting Cast.

The other Trolls are okay, but the Bergens have something going for them - namely a king who just wants happiness and is willing to go a long way to get that happiness. SCORE: 8.

Plot.

The story does take a bit of time getting going, but after the Trolls get captured by the Bergen, it becomes very enjoyable. SCORE: 8.

Originality.

The story of two total opposites working together isn't all that original. But the Bergens really give the tale a nice twist. SCORE: 7.

Violence Factor.

Trolls - and some other creatures - get eaten by huge creatures that are hiding in plain sight. But it's played off mostly for laughs than anything else. SCORE: 8.

Other Moral Issues.

This film does a great job of showing how two total opposites can work together. But I have trouble believing how limited the options the Bergens have to get happiness. SCORE: 7.

Final Score (out of 60): 47 % Score: 78.33%.

Trolls is a lot better film than I was expecting.
