Review of Troll 2 (1990) by Buddy K — 17 Nov 2010
What can be said about the so-called "best-worst movie" that hasn't been said? Really, TROLL 2 isn't the worst movie ever made, it's a dog turd in a paper bag that's been set on fire, sure, but that's something that's entertaining.
Hardcore horror fans know the ilk of TROLL 2 before it crosses their queue, it's an Italian horror film that's cheesy, silly, and stupid, yet completely entertaining. What separates TROLL 2 from other Italian schlock like NIGHTMARE CITY or HELL OF THE LIVING DEAD is that it was made in the United States with a cast of American actors.
Most Italian horror garbage horror fans sift through is done with a foreign cast being dubbed into English, giving the audience a distance from the material that makes it seem somewhat otherworldly. TROLL 2, on the other hand, seems like an American horror film made by an insane individual, which isn't helped by the film's bizarre anti-vegetarian message.
That's right, TROLL 2 is convinced that vegetarians are evil, horrible people that are out to force us meat-eaters into a veggie-conformist lifestyle. Or something. TROLL 2 really is a classic example of so-bad-it's-good, from the concept to the execution, and it's relentlessly entertaining for all the wrong reasons.
Watch it on a double bill with the documenary BEST WORST MOVIE for a good time.
