Review of Troll 2 (1990) by Aubrey P — 28 Jan 2013
"Nilbog! It's goblin spelled backwards! This is their kingdom!".
A young child is terrified to discover that a planned family trip is to be haunted by vile man-eating monsters out of his worst nightmare...
I have been toying with either giving this a 5 star rating or a half star rating. Troll 2 is a baffling movie. It has absolutely no redeeming features.
Rather than Trolls, as the title would suggest, Troll 2 features villainous goblins. The Ewoks from the Star Wars universe are more likely to haunt your dreams than the monsters present here. The acting is spectacularly inept on a scale that I did not know existed prior to viewing this movie. The production values are dire and the soundtrack is reminiscent of a cat dying a very slow death.
However, Troll 2 also happens to be incredibly entertaining. It is so bad that it actually flips around to being brilliant. I have watched it several times and it does not get old. This a comedic masterpiece that rivals The Life of Brian and perhaps even exceeding the Python's work. Words cannot do this film justice, it is a cultural landmark that everyone has to experience.
