Review of Triumph of the Will (1935) by Julie C — 09 Jun 2007
A frightening first hand look at exactly how the Nazi Propaganda machine works. At times, it is difficult not to be hyponotised by the events played out on screen. The Nuremburg rally scenes in particular feel much like a modern day state ceremony adding to the unnerving sense of legend to which the film's opening shots allude.
Please understand that it is difficult to praise a film about a subject which I know is morally and politically wrong and even writing the few positive things which I have makes me sick to my stomach.
Any positive statements made about Triumph of the Will should be made about it as a piece of cinema and not as a pro-Nazi piece, though the political overtones are rife.
