Review of Triumph of the Will (1935) by Owen 'Mshengu' G — 11 Nov 2007
For me- this movie meant so much more to me than what Anglophiles blurt out.
This film is both brilliant mesmerizing and alarming ... scary as hell. I felt that it captured Hitler's megalomania as well as exposing his underlying aim.
Contrary to popular opinion, I feel that Leni was indeed documenting one of the most fearful periods of modern world history - not as a Hitler "stooge" but as an honest filmmaker who had the eye of a visionary. She helped write history as non-other was ever able to do before her ...
(instead of being a racist Nazi as many suggest - she later proved her love for Africa and Africans by producing some magnificent and startling images - especially of men in her photography.
