Review of Triple 9 (2016) by Will L — 07 Mar 2016

Triple 9 is about a group of corrupt cops forced to plan out a complex heist by the Russian mob, which involves them killing a police officer. Now I was super excited about this film when I saw the trailers and the awesome cast but I was very disappointed when I saw the bad reviews.

But I have to say that this film really surprised me! Now while the cast is very big so there is really no one person that really gets the spotlight and there are some actors that get pushed to the side, but overall everyone is very good.

Casey Affleck is in my opinion one of the most underrated actors working today and he is very good here as well. The rest of the cast I'd great but Chiwetel Ejiofor, Kate Winslet, Anthony Mackie, and Woody Harrelson are especially good here.

The action in the film felt very gritty and pretty reminiscent of films like Heat and the Town. The only real complaint that I have with this film that I think most people felt was a bigger problem was that there is very little focus in the first half of the film with me questioning who was even supposed to be the main character.

But overall, this felt like a cool mix of the Town and a GTA movie that had a great cast and an interesting story and a great climax. I'm gonna give Triple 9 an 8/10.
