Review of Triple 9 (2016) by Natasha S — 26 Dec 2016
Playing out like Heat for 00s, sadly this isn't Michael Mann at the helm. The plot has a gritty theme and a dynamic cast to boot but it just never grows beyond the darkness. The film really needed 3 hours and I think this film could've worked, the backstory for the corruption needed work.
I loved the vision and the precision of the crime scenes but the story lags way too much. Heat had memorable scenes just like Triple 9, the difference is one of them flushes out every character while the other one seems intent to keep the characters ambiguous and distant.
