Review of Triple 9 (2016) by Lewis G — 18 Feb 2016
Overall, this movie has its pros and cons. The positives are that it succeeds as a tense thriller. Some of the scenes and the action set pieces were so suspense and intense that I was on the edge of my seat.
The really suspenseful score during these scenes added to the tension and I liked that a lot. Also, I thought the story was quite clever in parts and I was fairly shocked with some of the events that transpire in this film.
The performances from the cast were fairly decent too for the most part. Nevertheless, it is not without its flaws. The pacing is certainly questionable and at times it did get very slow and drawn out (i confess that I even yawned a few times during the film and not due to tiredness).
In addition, I felt like some cast members were wasted in the film, particularly Kate Winslet and her character could have been used so much more so that Winslet could show her true talent. Finally, the story does lack focus as well- going from one thing to another and going away from the main plot.
