Review of Triple 9 (2016) by Chris F — 21 May 2016

Triple 9 is an entertaining crime thriller. Still, with this cast, it is very disappointing. I thought the trailers were great. But the movie is just ok. The cast is one the top of their game. Casey Affleck, Anthony Mackie, and Chiwetel Ejiofor all give very strong performances.

Kate Winslet, Woody Harrelson, and Gal Gadot are wasted in their roles. The story is decent. For the most part it is entertaining. I really liked the film's gritty tone. The violence in the film is very brutal.

The story gets a little slow at times, and it is also overlong. The script isn't that great, but it isn't horrible. Overall, this is a solid crime thriller that wishes to be great but only ends up being good.
