Classic Halloween film that truly celebrates the holiday with a nice mix of scares & laughs. The cast is of a high-pedigree for a horror film and all are having a great time in their roles (Dylan Baker in particular brings nice menace as the creepiest school principle you'll ever meet).
Behind the camera, Michael Dougherty brings his passion project to life, addressing many classic Halloween themes, from poisoned candy to decorations, in a fun & original way. He also gets points for pronouncing Samhain properly (HINT: it's not SAM HANE).
The multiple stories also intersect in a fun way with lots of twists you won't see coming. Best of all, he brings Sam, the creepy, child-like scarecrow, to life and creates one of horror movies best villains in years.
The first images are already scary, from the costume to his size (Dougherty wisely had an actual seven year old boy play him) but when you see what is underneath, it's the stuff of nightmares. Overall, one of the best Halloween movies in years and a must for any holiday movie rotation.
