Review of Trespass (2011) by Ayoife O — 20 Oct 2011
"Trespass" means entering property that's not yours but this title is inappropriate since it should be called "Burglary." The movie is ugly, not just because it doesn't amount to anything at the end, but the characters are desperate. You have to wonder why Nicole Kidman took this role which is one of her worst acting. Is she a femme fatale who fizzled, a bored housewife who wants fun, or a frightened woman who just wants to give up the loot? No one knows for sure. Nicolas Cage looks awful and the actor's hair makes him look older than 47 years. Both Cage and Kidman seem to be satisfied in giving the public bad movies in recent years. If there's any justice, they'll be nominated for Razzies next year.
The robbers are a band of misfits including Ben Mendelshon, Dash Mihok, Jordano Spiro and Cam Gigandet who's ok as beefcake. They seem to have a shaky robbery plan without any solid escape or goals. The problem is that the family is worse, they get free, run around in circles and then get caught again. Liana Liberato as the daughter doesn't look anything like either Cage or Kidman. The movie could do with some thrills but there's no surprises. The last 30 minutes is so bad that it feels like comedy. We finally get to see the use of the lighter which could have been used to burn this film.
