Review of Trespass (2011) by Daniel A — 24 Oct 2011
Horrendously hilarious no-brain thriller that could have been decent but squanders the little promise it shows on the most over the top screenplay of the year. Director Joel Schumacher shows zero restraint in this headache-inducing tale of a diamond trader who's taken hostage with his family in their luxurious home.
As it becomes clear that unexpected links exist between hostage and captor, the film shows itself to contain some intrigue, but the joy of uncovering these hidden connections evaporates in light of the constant screeching and endless gun-pointing that Schumacher bombards the audience with.
Consequently Trespass sees itself going round in narrative circles, where nothing is achieved but an escalating irritation for the viewer.
