Review of Tremors (1990) by Demetris H — 25 Jan 2010
Tremors is a classic monster flick, made in the day when having a giant rubber slug as the villain was just damn good entertainment.
Tremors tells the story of a remote town and its inhabitants who all play their part in keeping the town going - naturally all this changes as the town becomes the feeding ground for giant mutant worms who travel solely underground and are remarkably fast when they need to be. This leads all the townsfolk (who weren't that many to begin with) to team up and come up with solutions that will lead them to safety.
The storyline is obviously very basic and predictable, but it's the characters of the town that give this film its own character - The duo formed by Fred Ward and Kevin Bacon is iconic, whereas Micheal Gross's gun happy sunday warrior was used for every single sequel to follow. Throw in some gore scenes in the only way the nineties could and you have yourself a classic B-movie that will entertain even the most timid of film viewers.
