Review of Tremors (1990) by Rocknblues 8 — 04 Jan 2010
The oddball characters are a perfect match for the tiny desert community in which they live. The protagonist, Valentine ("Val") McKee, and his partner, Earl Bassett, are handymen who eek out an existence doing odd jobs (hauling debris, pumping out septic tanks, erecting fences) in and around Perfection, Nevada, while hoping for better days to come.
Everyone in Perfection knows everyone else, and everyone pretty much manages to get on everyone else's nerves, but, when huge, burrowing worm-like creatures with toothed tentacles inside their fanged mouths appear, killing desert settlers and townspeople alike, Val and Earl join forces with graduate seismology student Rhonda LeBeck, survivalists Burt and Heather Gummer, store owner Walter Chang, and others to fight for their survival, and, in the process, Val finally finds the girl who's right for him.
This movie is an unlikely winner, maybe, but it?s a winner, nevertheless, with comedy and suspense, in about equal measures, seasoned with a dash of horror and a pinch of romance.
