Review of Trekkies 2 (2004) by Robert B — 24 Jul 2009
As a long time Trekkie ( I think the term Trekker is stupidist term of denial in any fandom)I've wanted to see these films. As a documentary part 2 rambles all over the place and the 1st half seems like a yearbook/ family home video of overweight Star Trek fans, then if you've made it through 45 minutes of that it gets interesting: 1) how STar Trek actually touched and changed people's lives in very positive ways as Cosby & crew goto war torn Serbia and I find folks who could escape into Trek's perfect human future to renew thier own hope in thier lives and cool side benefit the European fans are not only thinner in general but the chick fans are hot! 2) Back in the good ole' USA in Sacramento there are some really cool punk/rock Star Trek bands with bizarre names like No Kill I, Stolvokor and Warp 11.
Seeing people create Trek sets in thier garage with overweight friends these days isn't that special. Seems like a pre-requiste to be a Trekkie. If there is one subtle underlying message from this flick is the American fans really need to stop watching every episode and get thier collective butts outside and assimilate with the human race.
Live Long and Peace out.
