Review of Trees Lounge (1996) by Tibor B — 13 Mar 2009
Great bittersweet indie film written, directed and starring Steve Buscemi following the life of barfly Tommy, as he comes to terms with a lost relationship, unemployment and alchololism in a dull American suburb. Buscemi captures the atmosphere of disappointment and regrets, whilst still entering small rays of hope and optimism and finding a sense of humour in some bleak situations. A good supporting cast, especially a young Chloe Sevigny who brings a sweet gawky charm to her Lolita role.
A cool jazzy score and cinemtography that contrasts the murky world of daytime drinking with the bright sunshine of summer suburbia.
