Review of Trees Lounge (1996) by Caleb M — 24 Mar 2010
A very well made and interesting character study. Buscemi is one of the most interesting actors around today, and he proved here that he can not only carry an entire film, but write and direct it as well.
Not that he doesn't get help from Chloë Sevigny and Mark Boone Junior who give two of the films' other most interesting performances. Daniel Baldwin is excellent here as well and has a pretty frightening scene with Buscemi about his 17 year-old daughter.
Watching a man self-medicate while thinking about he mistakes in his life can be depressing, but Trees Lounge has moments that shine and even though I wouldn't say the ending is a happy one, at least Buscemi realizes and admits to the mistakes he has made.
Maybe it's just me, but I felt there was some significance to the fact that he didn't take a shot in that last shot.
