Review of Treasure Planet (2002) by Kyle O — 16 Sep 2010
This film came close to being an all-out great epic adventure. I like the concept ("Treasure Island" in space), the character designs and the action. But the characters were dull, and the story was somewhat all-too familiar.
The action scenes were great, and the special effects were jaw-dropping and ambitious. This was at a time when traditional animation was losing its popularity while computer animated films like "Finding Nemo" were taking off at the box office and with the critics.
It's not a bad film, but it squandered some of its potential. It lacks a really strong story, and the ending was not very satisfying. But for what its worth, it's a very watchable film with a lot going for it.
It's a shame it had to bomb.
