Review of Trash Humpers (2010) by Nick M — 26 Aug 2010
I saw this film at the NUART in Santa Monica with 3 friends. We were the only people in the screening, save for a homeless person who wandered in and slept in the back.
This film is vile. My least favorite Korine film. Has some good moments.
This should not have been distributed as a film. It should be put in a gallery, rather than the silver screen.
It is a super interesting concept, and amazingly well executed to achieve what Korine was going for, and looking back on it, now some months later, I can say I'm glad it exists, though I wouldn't recommend it to nearly anyone.
This film has no story, which is fine, films don't need story, and apart from random violence, sexing, and trashing, there is only one reoccurring image that is present throughout the film and finishes the film up, which is that of baby dolls.
I am fascinated how Korine can make his films appear to have absolutely no narrative arc whatsoever, but upon a second viewing, or months of contemplation, I come to a place where I can understand and see the film as a whole, and track the arc, however minute (which still may be simply tossed out of the window by most viewers).
