Review of TransSiberian (2008) by Lee B — 09 Jun 2009
I am a certified fan of Brad Anderson. His movies are brilliantly visual. And this, being probably his most conventional, doesn?t fail. It has some hokey scenes, but the best thing about this is the simplistic means of setting up something that anyone can fall into. As an unfortunate constant traveler for work but willing traveler for vacations, I could see simple scenarios like this happening to me, less so now with family. But I am the kind of person to just jump out on a truck to hike a mountain with people I just met, or I guess I was like that in a previous life.
This movie has a great subtle feeling of dread for the main girl and the characters seem very real. The events are not as outlandish as they could be, realistic enough to think of yourself in that situation. And the atmosphere is really what?s great. Maybe I just love movies out in the cold - The Thing (Carpenter version) is one of my all-time favorite movies. But this one is great in capturing the fact that there is really no where to go and no one to help in such a foreign environment. Great movie.
