Review of TransSiberian (2008) by Bloodmarsh K — 26 Mar 2013
Hitchcock knew how to cast his thrillers, unlike Brad Anderson here. The story is fine, although predictable. But the casting is awful for this type of film - Eduardo Noriega, as the villain, is about as menacing as the crowd at a sold out Backstreet Boys concert... Kate Mara is simply awful, as usual. Woody Harrelson plays the clueless husband, who comes across more as a doofus, which I wasn't fond of (he could have pulled off the villain role much better.) Emily Mortimer/Ben Kingsley were really the only actors who fit their roles without much of an issue... and the death scenes, are ludicrous, and laughable - but then again, so was every scene that included Eduardo Noriega.
It's not a movie that I can judge by it's material, since there's so much to dislike elsewhere.
