Review of TransSiberian (2008) by Greg T — 07 May 2012
I like train movies a lot, and this chilly thriller is a real humdinger. An American couple travelling by rail from Beijing to Moscow after doing churchy charity work in China come across another young travelling couple, significantly more unwashed & unholy.
But what do they have to do with stolen drugs & gang violence, and will our heroes get involved in the drama? Brad 'Session 9' Anderson crafts an exciting, cold & occasionally vicious thriller that takes some odd turns and gets a bit silly, but is always entertaining and occasionally surprising.
Harrelson & Mortimer are fascinating to watch, & Sir Ben Kingsley brings bonus gravitas, & a vague sense of threat, to his role as a dogged cop. The vistas are gorgeous, & Anderson manages to find real claustrophobia in some of the wildest & most open spaces in the world.
Definitely worth chasing down.
