Review of Transporter 3 (2008) by David G — 07 Apr 2016
Part 3 of The Stath's ever so generic action series. Improves on the tiresome Transporter 2 in certain areas - a plot which actually makes sense, a minimum of utterly stupid stunts, a villain with a little depth (a bare minimum true but at least it's something) - but screws up in others, most notably action scenes which suffer from a chronic case of shaky-cam syndrome making them virtually incomprehensible.
The story is nothing special, though it's a definite improvement of the last movie since it's relatively down to Earth and the villain has an honest-to-God actual motive for doing what he's doing, but Statham seems a little bored and the attempts at making things personal fall flat thanks to the complete lack of chemistry between him and love interest Natalya Rudakova (cute but wooden).
There are occasional flashes of imagination (Statham driving his car onto and then INTO a speeding train) so it's not a complete write-off but the freshness of the original movie (it was no masterpiece but at least it was different) is long gone and there's a definite whiff of flogged dead horse in the air.
