Review of Transporter 2 (2005) by Sums I — 29 Oct 2011
I liked Transporter, and I really liked Transporter 2. True, it is filled with even more unbelievable action than the first... but if you're not going to try to be realistic at least do over-the-top action with imagination and style like we have here.
The acting was better this time around, with a more believable bad guy - and less of the dubbed-over Hong Kong feeling of the first. We get a mascara-heavy psycho girl killer as the #1 baddie, and a killer virus plot that adds more depth than just "kill the bad leader.".
Where the first movie pushed past the limits of believability, this one shatters the barrier and keeps on going. But they do it in a way that is just plain fun to watch. The martial arts are spectacular, mixing up the singular "BIG BOY" challenges with those rooms full of underlings (who nonetheless have weapons to be mindful of). You also have car chases, a plane chase, a mall chase, a waverunner chasing a bus (yeah, seriously), and more.
I think there is actually a tricky balancing act to these movies... where you want people to get "into" the action, but make things too ludicrous and people just start to laugh and groan at the stupidity. But this one walks the tightrope, and I think if you're ready to watch some kick-butt action with the guys - you won't be disappointed!
