Review of Transit (2012) by The D — 05 May 2012
A pretty decent cat & mouse thriller with Jim Caviezel trying to keep his family at bay from James Frain's armed robbers. After an armoured truck heist Marek(Frain) & his accomplices are presented with a problem in how to get their $4m past a police road block. Stopping at a diner they briefly cross paths with Nate(Caviezel) & his family & decide to stash the cash on their vehicle allowing them to pass through safely & then collect further down the line. After an intitial attempt to recover ends with Nate landing in jail the subsequent attempts become bloody & desperate.
There's a few small elements to twist events including Nate's criminal past but nothing major so as to complicate matters. It is essentially one man trying to keep his family alive whilst being tracked by dangerous criminals.
Caviezel is again a little limp but Frain shows some menace as his pursuer as the hunt becomes more personal. The support is competent including Rohm & Perrineau but Sterling Knight as Nate's eldest son Shane is just an irriatating fould mouthed teenager you want to slap. No surprise he has a Disney channel history.
It's a fairly effective tale of peril which seems to have slipped under the radar into straight to DVD territory which is a shame as it's a little better than some major cinema releases.
