Review of Transformers: The Last Knight (2017) by Jason M — 04 Jul 2017
Transformers: The Last Knight.
Initial Reaction: Of the Round Table?
Main Characters.
Cade Yeager: He's a guy played by Mark Wahlberg.
Optimus Prime: He's the leader of the Autobots. He's voice by Peter Cullen.
Plot Summary (oh boy).
There's a very powerful staff that was used by Merlin. He used it to bring out a robot disguised as a dragon to defeat their enemies.
Many years later, that staff is lost, and there's a need to find it and use it because the world is falling apart after all the fighting between humans and two factions of transformable robots.
Cade finds out he's the guy who can find the staff, and someone who can use the staff to stop the alien threat to destroy the Earth.
SCORING.
Main Characters.
Optimus is always the really wise leader, but he's not on screen very much and he feels like a side bar to the real characters.
And Cade doesn't have much going for him - he's just feels like an ordinary, undeveloped character. SCORE: 2.
Supporting Cast.
I can't tell who's more aggravating - the robots or the humans. Both groups seem to go out of their way to try to get "under my skin". SCORE: 2.
Plot.
This is one convoluted film. I like action as much as the next guy, but there's no flow or pacing here. It's just one large set of explosions after another. SCORE: 1.
Originality.
Take your average invasion flick and pump up the violence - and you get this film. SCORE: 1.
Violence Factor.
There's a whole lot of destruction on display here as lost of characters get killed (in not to explicit ways.) But it gets way too much as if action will overcome a confusing script. SCORE: 2.
Other Moral Issues.
This film tries to talk about how teamwork saves the day gets lost in all those battle scenes and lackluster characters. SCORE: 2.
Final Score (out of 60): 10 % Score: 16.67%.
The most overblown, convoluted and headache inducing Transformers movie to date.
