Review of Transformers: The Last Knight (2017) by Jak-Luke S — 23 Jul 2017
It verges of being a parody of itself throughout, thinking that adding yet again more backstory and exposition will somehow reinvent it but ultimately makes it all the more undesirable. The set pieces and CGI are huge and once again the highlight - that's it.
Wahlberg is out of his depth and the film is just drowning in characters who add exposition and then leave and so many of them are just redundant such as Haddock and Moner, with the latter the missed star of the film.
Hopkins or Mr. Exposition is the highlight but even then the writers have no idea what to do with him and write him into the ground. The entry also fails to materialise on promises its predecessor set up regarding history, that film being 2hr 45min of set up for this 2hr 30min pay off without the pay off.
It's so bloated with scenes that don't matter and could easily have just been dialogue, such as the WW2 sequence. Once again this entry fails on both revitalising and refreshing the formula and just like the Saw movies makes you wait for the next film for the big pay off, that never actually occurs.
